Let’s start with a question: What is the greatest public good of Web3?

The answer is—How to eliminate the historical carbon footprint of the Bitcoin network. This issue concerns everyone in the Web3 ecosystem, and it concerns our collective future. The carbon footprint of the Bitcoin network is the greatest public good on Web3—no institution is responsible for it, but it is directly linked to the interests of every participant. The greener the Bitcoin network becomes, the more large enterprises and institutions with ESG goals will purchase and hold Bitcoin, driving up its value and benefiting all Bitcoin holders.

The vision of GreenBTC.Club is to achieve this Web3’s greatest public good through the collective efforts of a global community—Make Bitcoin Green Again. We aim to make GreenBTC.Club the world’s largest marketplace for individual voluntary carbon neutrality, collaboratively offsetting the Bitcoin network’s historical energy consumption and carbon emissions, with the goal of achieving 100% carbon neutrality for the Bitcoin network by 2050.

To achieve this, GreenBTC.Club has designed an innovative Play to Impact, Impact to Earn gamified application. We have transformed over 800,000 Bitcoin blocks into a massive digital map, using the Cambridge University methodology to calculate the historical energy consumption of each Bitcoin block. Every 1 kWh of green electricity generated by solar power can be used as a green certificate to offset 1 kWh of carbon emissions from conventional electricity. Community members can choose a block, use on-chain green certificates to offset the carbon footprint of that block’s energy usage, and receive token rewards in return.

Looking back over the past year, our achievements are remarkable:

• In the first half of the year, we launched the official V1 product, achieving the 0-1 milestone;

• In the second half, we scaled rapidly with V2, expanding our community;

• Our community contributed 710,000 climate actions, with over 160,000 Bitcoin blocks successfully greened;

• Through renewable energy certificates, we have onchain offset 110 million kWh of historical Bitcoin electricity consumption, making us the world’s largest REC retail market and the ideal demand side for matching long-tail distributed rooftop solar‘s micro RECs.

The success of GreenBTC.Club’s bootstrap is driven by the core technology of the Bitcoin Climate Protocol and tokenomics. This entire closed-loop process—solar green energy generation → issuance of renewable energy certificates on-chain → consumption and offset of renewable energy certificates on-chain → GreenBTC.Club greening Bitcoin blocks → renewable energy certificate income supporting more solar green energy generation—is achieved 100% on-chain through the Bitcoin Climate Protocol. Not only does this green the Bitcoin network, but it also provides a positive incentive and investment for each kWh of solar green electricity.

Bitcoin Climate Protocol is not just about greening Bitcoin; it also lays the foundation for broader Web3 carbon-neutral applications. The Bitcoin Climate Protocol’s support for on-chain carbon offsetting can extend to support more Web3 applications, becoming a universal carbon-neutral standard for Web3.

Our ecosystem token will carry the network value of the Bitcoin Climate Protocol and will be shared with all climate actors who participate in GreenBTC.Club’s Play to Impact and Impact to Earn, becoming the best practice for building public goods and sustainable commercial value.
